(FROM Orm SPECIAL BEPOniEB.) ft FOOTBALL GROUNDS. Tho disposal of the Petono football grounds for the coming season was again discussed last night by Petono Borough Council. A deputation from Petono Association Football Club asked to have tho uso of a football field on Petono Recreation Ground. The club would offer up to £10 for a ground, expecting to receive, say, iivo per cent, of the gato takings. Wellington Rugby Football Union replied in tho matter of renting tho football grounds, and offered to pay the council tho sum of £162 10s. As to the period of tenancy, the union considered that from tho first Saturday after Easter until it was necessary to prepare cricket wickets would bo satisfactory. Councillor Short moved that the offer of tho Rugby Union bo not accepted, and that three grounds be granted to tho Rugby Union and that one ho allotted to tho Football Association. Councillor Southgate seconded, agreeing that the council should consider other players besides tho Rugby teams. Tho past treatment received from tho Rugby Union had been anything but kind. On the motion of Councillor Smith, the arranging of terms was discussed in committee. DISTRICT ELECTORS' ROLL. A statutory meeting of Petono Borough Council was held last evening to approve of the District Electors' Roll. Tho Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) intimated that there wero 2300 names on tho roll. Tho council appointed tho Mayor, Councillor Short, and Councillor Castlo to sign tho roll. EXTENSION OF BOUNDARIES. "I am still hopeful that wo may succeed in getting the Hon. Mr. Buddo out to look over tho land proposed to bo added to tho borough," said Mr. J. W. M'Ewan (Mayor) at Petono Borough Council meeting last night. If tho Minister, ho added, would not grant tho request of the petitioners in regard to Gear Island, Commissioner Shaw would then determine whether that land should be added to Petono Borough or not. JOTTINGS. Tho first hockey match of tho season was played on Potono Recreation Ground yesterday afternoon. A team from tho Pakeha Club came out to play representatives of tho recently-formed Petono Club. The visitors succeeded in defoating the local players by seven goals to four: A motion was carried at Pet-one Borough Council last evening protesting against the proposal to merge the voting powers of Hutt and Petone into ono as far as tho tramway schomo was concerned.
Petono Football Club will hold .a practico match on tho Recreation Ground next Saturday.
A cricket match between teams of the Wellington Woollen Manufacturing Company, Ltd., will bo played on Petono Recreation Ground next Saturday. An eleven from the warehouse in town is coming out to meet representatives of tho mill.
-The engineer of Petono Borough Council was instructed last night to look round for an area of ground suitable for a cemetery, on tho eastern side of tho river near the mouth. Potono Borough Council last night passed a vote of thanks to Constable Cox for his services while stationed in their district. It
was mentioned that a movement was on foot to make him a presentation. A 6imilar resolution was passed in respect of the transfer to Ashburton of Mr. Cowan, stationmasfcer at Petone.
Councillor R. J. Southgato intimated last evening to Petone Borough Council that ho intended to visit Melbourne, and wished for leave of ahsenco for the remainder of tho term. Two framed championship certificates of tho Petone Football Club are to bo hung in tho corridor of the Municipal Buildings, along with tho other trophies won by tho club.
