A PAST HUNDRED YARDS.
Last evening tho Thorndon Swimming Club raced off two heats of a 100 yards handicap, llw water was all that could bo wished for fast times, and those who witnessed the events saw a really fino display of swimming. Tho results of (ho heats wore as followFirst heat: ,1. Nelson, IGsec, lj D. Jt'Leod lOsec, 2; A. W. Smith, 225e0., 3; G. H. Fell' 12sec, and G. Bruce, Usee., also competed! Time, limn. 20 3-ssec.
Second heat: R. Rona.vno, Msec, 1; V Roberts, ljsco., 2; K. Healv, scr., 3. Also started: N. L. Allan, lOsec.; It. Nelson, 7sec. This heat resolved itself into a splendid contest between Hoaly, Roberts, and ltonavne. Roberts was leading mast of the way, followed closely by Ronayne. Tw.enty-livo yards from tlio win-ning-post Roberts was still leading, but hero Ronayno pulled himself together, mado a da«h and, passing his opponent, finished first by about a yard. The time for tho raco was 03 3-ssec, which is ono of Ronayne's best performances. Tho final raco will bo held (his evening, and ought b be a very fine one, as tho result decides tho "Ward Challenge Cup."
