Darmody threatened to kill him if ho told what ho had scon. Witness identified Hynes as accompanying Darmody on tho fatal occasion. HOW THE MURDER OCCURRED. On January 23. while some workmen were engaged in rebuilding ft wall at a farm on Lord Clanricarde's estate, from which a man had been evicted, near Atlienry, a party of armed men opened fire upon tho men and tho police by whom they were being protected. " Constablo Martin Goldrick (says the "Times Weekly") was killed and two of tho men wero seriously wounded. Two men arc under arrest. "It seems that a man named Gilligan was evicted from the farm about 20 years ago. A Mrs. Ryan returned from America two years ago and purchased Gilligan's interest. in tho land, and was put into possession by Lord C'lnnricardo's agent. Sinco then it has been necessary to afford her constant police protection. On several occasions walls on tho farm wero levelled to tho ground. "Mrs. Ryan is herself a persona grata with tho United Irish League. The officials of tho leagno in Sligo-mado a formal award, sanctioning Mrs. Ryan's tenancy on condition that sho compensated the former occupant, who had been evicted, by the payment of .£2O. Mrs. Ryan duly paid the money,' and took possession of tho holding. Sho had not, however, calculated on tho opposition of a formidable local band, who wanted tho land for themselves. At the inquest Iho jury condemned tho outrage in tho strongest manner. "A remarkable incident is reported to have occurred in Louglirea on tho afternoon of January 23. Between 3 and 4 o'clock, while the inquest was being held on tho dead policeman, a black, flag was hoisted on the west bridge. It boro on each side a representation of a human skull and the words, 'Hi, for Craughwell. Puzzle. Find Tener.' Mr. Shaw Tener is Lord Clanricarde's agent. Tho (lag was taken down by Head-Constablo Atridge, and was placed in the police barracks at.Atlienry."
