Mr. J. W. Joynt, Registrar of tho New Zealand University, returned from a holiday visit to Sydney by tho Iliverinn yesterday. '

Prior-to leaving for England, tho Rev. Mr. Worsley was presented with a purso of sovereigns by tho congregation of tho Anglican Church, Tokomani.

The Rov. W. G. Taylor, superintendent of tho Sydney Central Methodist Mission, and Mr. P. N. Slado, secretary of tho mission, will go south by to-night's steamer.

Mr. J.- Henderson Cobbe, late of Christchurch, returned by tho Sydney boat yostorday from a twelve months' trip to 'tho Old World. Mr. Cobho will now resido in Wellington.

Mr. Thomas Soddon, M.P., arrived from tho West Coast last night, having como to Wellington with tho object of conferring with Ministers on water rights for generating electricity and other matters affecting his constituents. He will probably return to the Coast with tho Minister for Mines.

Tho death occurred at the Wellington Hospital yesterday of Mr. S. J. Jackman, who was for many years 'an officer of tho Customs Department, and finally an inspector under tho Beer Duty Act. Ho retired a few years ago, and had resided in Tasmania for some time. *

In acknowledging the presentation of a gold cigar-case, tho gift of tho Yorkshire Society on Friday last, Sir Harry Rawson said:—"l will givo it. plenty of aiso. The Hon. R. M'Kcnzio, Minister for Public Works, intends to leave for Nelson by Saturday night's boat. Ho will' then go overland to Wostport, probably leaving Nelson by train on Tuesday morning. From Wostport ho will continue his journey to other parts of tho Coast, and will probably be absent from Wellington altogether about a fortnight.

Tho funeral of tho lato Mr. H. J. Underwood, a victim of tho Penguin disaster, was held yesterday, when there woro a largo number of people present. Members of St. Mark's congregation and tho Noivtown fowling Club and representatives of tho Union Company were, amongst those who did honour to tho remains of tho deceased gentleman. A service, was conducted at St. Mark's Church by tho vicar, tho Rev. A? M. Johnson, who also officiated at tho graveside.

Tho Maheiio, leaving Wellington Friday, March 2C, is tho last connecting steamer with tho Asturins at Sydney, leaving that port on March 81. Tho local office of Messrs. Thus. Tho services rendered to tho Danish community of Wellington by Mr. 11. D. Hell, who has been Consul for Denmark for a number of years, have been recognised by the Danish Society on tho occasion of that gentleman's departure- for the Old Country. Tho society has presented him with an illuminated address, which assures him of its appreciation of the valuable, services rendered by him during the long term of years in which ho has held consular oflice, and also of his great kindness to any of tho signatories' fellow-countrymen who were in needy circumstances at any time. The address 'is signed by Holm Hansen, president; S. Soreiisen, vice-president; and V. Jensen, seeretarv, who, in piesenting it. wished Mr. Bell bun voyage on his trip to Great Britain.
