ROUND ABOUT MASTERTON.
NEWS AND NOTES. Settlers on the Fernridge (says our Masterton correspondent) have paid particular attention to potato cropping this season. Tho climate and nature of the soil is highly suitable for- potato cultivation? and it is worthy of note that crops are almost free from blight. Some of the farmers have 'fairly large areas under crop. ■On account of the wonderful impetus given to pastures by the very favourable season, it is expected that very little green feed will require to be sown this year. A strong "working bee" of enthusiastic members of the Masterton A. and P. Association will, in a few days time, take in hand. the work of cultivating, harrowing, levelling, and rolling, the association's new grounds at _ Solway, an area of about 30 acres is being cultivated. Almost all the grass seed has been donated, and the work of sowing will also /be* done by voluntary labour. '
Co-operative dairy factories throughout the district are having an exceptionally good season. Feed is still plentiful, the grass having been revived by the recent rains. Indications are" that the factory season will probably last a month longer than usual. ", ■) %j. M i ~~ vc ;,
