(dt TEt.EGKArn.—srxciA.l. coitntsroNDENT.) When tho construction of the ladies' swimming baths (the cost of which has been defrayed by Dr. W. H. Hoskim;) is an accomplished fact, Masterton will bo well provided for in tho matter of public baths. Thoro will then be bathing accommodation- in tho Park lake, Corporation Baths, and tho baths exclusively set aside for the uso of women and girls. Residents thoroughly appreciate their good fortune in this respect. The holding of a series of swimming sports for men, women, and. children has tended to populariso this healthy pastime. Interest in swimming is particularly noticeable among the school children. Tho headmaster of the district high school (Mr. W. 11. Jackson) has done a great deal in this direction. j-lis active interest in tho school aquatic carnival held last week was a great encouragement to tho youngsters, and was highly appreciated by the parents. - A handsome medal has been presented bv Mr. D. Walsh to tho Opaki Rifle Clubwinners of tho championship teams' aggregate. The final shoot for tho medal will be held on Thursday. "The late rains have done much towards brightening up the course of tho Masterton Racing Club at Opaki. The -grass is coming up splendidly through tho top dressing on the track proper, and it should be in fine going condition for the meeting on April I and 2.
