BRINGS 676 PASSENGERS. The White Star liner Corinthic, from Lon» don, arrived in port at ", o'clock yesterday morning, and after landing those suffering from the outbreak of measles at Somes Island, and undergoing the disinfecting process, drew alongside the Queen's Wharf at 2.30 p.m. The big liner brings 110 fewer than .376 passengers—six first-class, 46 second, and 521 third-class passengers. The majority of the latter intend to settle in the country, and of them 240 were assisted (175 adults and children), and. 144 were nominated by relatives already located here. Sir. A. S. Dauby, the Government immigration officer, who travelled from Hobart bv the Corinthic, states that tJiey _ includo 43 farmers, 12 labourers, 34 domestic servants, a nil there are 28 wives of men who came ahead to prepare a home for tliem. Mr. Danby says that, taking them all round, the newcomers are a fine lot, many of them.halo and hearty young men, and others are mid-dle-aged men, with a definite purpose. The official tooic our representative round the decks to "inspect" the intending settlers. They certainly looked a healthy and physically able lot of men, a 'good deal superior to the class that came this way a few years ago, and they should be a welcome addition lo the population of the Dominion. The women, too, despite the .slight anxiety caused by the outbreak of measles and scarlet fovcr on board, were on a par with the men as far as appearance went. The associated Ilawke's Bay stock auctioneers will hold a salo at the Waipukurau Yards today.
