FOOTBALL.
RETURN OF AUSTRALIAN AMATEURS. ALL BLACK TOUR DISCUSSED. (in TiLEciiini-riiEsa association—coi'tittcnr.) Brisbane, March 22. "Tho Wallabies" (the Australian amateur Jlugby team) returned from England by tho steamer Moana. Mr. MacMahon, manager of the team, interviewed, said ho was quite satisfied with tho way tho team had acquitted themselves. Their defeats wore largely duo to the unfavourable conditions under which they had played. The standard of British football, ho considers, has considerably improved since tho visit of tho "All Blacks" (NewZealand amateurs), who caught tho British players "on tho hop." "Tlio Wallabies" wero up against stronger teams and better football all round. The Australians, Mr. MacMahon says, had little to learn from Britain in the way of football. Concerning tho dispute between England and Scotland, it was caused by fear that, as a result of tho large amount mado by the New Zealanders, professionalism would bo introduced. A colonial team would he well received within two years, but Mr. MacMahon did not think an earlier visit would bo successful.
