i Despite the hard nor'-wester blowing, the Te Aro Sailing Club got- off a race for the scows. On Saturday five boats started, and each had two or three reefs in. The boats got away in th» following ordor:—Winifred (Barnard-Carter), Rival (S. M'Williams). Mororo (R. Highet), Doreen (C. Watt), and Rambler (Highet and Barnett). The boats rounded Oriental Bay buoy in the same order as they started, but, at Coromamlel buoy, Rambler took the lead, followed by Rival, Winifred, and ! Dorcen. Mororo, having met with some mis- ( hap, had to put back to the boat-harbour. ' Before rounding the Jeruinghain buoy Dorcen i also mot with a mishap, breaking her tiller, I and she had to put back, too, thus leaving i the Rambler with a good lead, which she kept t till the finish. Rival and Winifred had rather a hard struggle for second place, but, after ; some battling, Rival secured it. The first ; prixo was the club's cup and the second prize was a trophy presented by Air. Ralph Morse. The Thorndon Dinghy Club had intended to hold a race, but the sea was too rough.
