On Wednesday last members of tho Pongaroa Rifle Club competed for Mr. Bolton's cup, which carries with it the club championship', the conditions being seven shots each at 300, 500, and 700 yards, without a sighting-shot. The competition was exceedingly keen, and on .the completion of the first two ranges only four points divided the leading six men, all of whom had competed at the reoent champion-
ship meeting at Trentham. Mr. E. Poole presented a trophy to •be 'competed for concurrently with the championship, with handicap points added, the winner of the championship being barred. The conditions wero not too favourable, the light at times being very bad, and a fmo rain falling blurred the (argots considerably, but there was very littlo wind. Tho shooting on tho whole was very satisfactory, as the 300 and 700 yards ranges are only used onco during the year. Tho competition resulted in a tio between H. Coo and R. Reed, and, on the shoot-off, H Coo won the championship with 13 points to 7, I!. Peed taking Mr. Poole's trophy. Following are (ho scores:— ,100 500 700 yds. yds. yds. T'l. H'p. H. The club was represented at Trentham by the first six men of the above list, each member getting into the prize-list on tiro or moro occasions. R. Reed was unfortunately recalled to Pongaroa owing to a death, and the remaining five fired in the teams' championship match, finishing twentieth out of a total of forty-six teams with an average of 92 per man. . The Post and Telegraph Rifles will fire a match with the Upper Hutt Eiflo Club at tho latter's private range on Saturday next.
