After being moored in the stream for a considerable period, tho old barque Wcathersfield was towed alongside the King's Wharf on Friday. Her owners, the Unio?. Company, intend to place a crow on her to sail the barque to Suva, where she will be dismantled and cmipped as a coal hulk for that port. ' About October last when all hope had been abandoned: of the safety of the company's missing barnuo Loch Lomond, which; sailed in • July from Newcastle for Lyttelton, the Union Company purchased the Weathersfield from Mr. T. Q. Macarthy, of Wellington. ,It was intended that cither tho Loch Lomond or the Dartford was to bo dismantled for a coal hulk, bnt the latter vessel being suitable for conversion into a training ship it was decided to purchase the Weathersfield for use as a hulk.. Tho Weathersfield was built in 1E65 by Messrs. 11., Duncan and Co., Port Glasgow. She is a vessel of 1101 tons gross and 1C47 tons net. ' " To-day the Union Company's steamer Kaituna leaves Lyttelton for Wellington, in continuation of her voyage to Grcymo.uth. This week the Koonya will sail for tho West Coast on Monday instead of Tuesday. From Timaru sho is coming to Wellington direct, omitting Lyttelton. The vessel is due in New Zealand about the middle of June. It has been decided by the Motueka Harbour Board to effect considerable improvements to •the harbour, and. meetings of ratepayers will shortly bo held to consider proposals to raise loans aggregating £13,000 for this purpose.
