AMEER'S UNSAFE THRONE
PLOT AND ARRESTS. (UIT TELEGttirU—PKESS ASSOCIATION—COPYIiIfinT.) Teheran, March 12. Numerous arrests have been made at Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, and Jellalabad, a town to the south of the Kabul River, owing to the discovery of a plot to kill tho Ameer, Habibullah Khan, and the Heir-Apparent, Inayatulla. Tho plot is attributed to the royal wife of the late Ameer (Abdur Rahman Khan), who is working in her son's interests. [The power behind the throne in Afghanistan, says Mr. Angus Hamilton, is divided between Nasrullah Khan (oldest brother of the Ameer) and the Queen Dowager, mother of Omar Jan Khan. Hitherto Nasrullah Khan has been deemed tho most unruly force. Now the Queen Dowager seems to be the forcing factor.' According to Dr. Winter, the Ameer's confidential physician, political intrigues ere wearing the Ameer out; "his malady is inoro montal than physical."]
