PAYMENTS ON RECENT FIRES
HEAVY CALL ON INSURANCE COMPANIES. (DT TELEGRAPH— SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.) Palmorston, March 20. Mr. 0. D. Morpeth, of Wellington, states that the following fire insuranco claims have been settled Binco the- beginning of this month:— Taihap© £10,000 Ashhurst, £3,000 Norsewood £3,000 'Harbour Board shed, Wellington (the bulk held in Lloyds) £30,000 Palmersfcon Royal Hotel lire, including furniture and effects £8,000 Foilding, dwelling £500 Linton, dwelling £400 Total £54,000 Other fires havo occurred in Mr. Morpeth's district, but ho was not acting in them, and theso includo two in Palmerstoli, Pipiriki House (£G00O), and Virtue's, Wellington, £8000. In no caso was there an entirely conclusive explanation of the origin of the firo.
