ALTERATION AT. ROSENEATH.' In. conversation '.with 1 , a Dokmi'oN. representative" yesterday, '• Mr. W. H! Morton; City Engineer, said' that that portion of Kelburne, which was originally a portion of, the Melrose Borough, the . first to., be incorporated in the city, has now been almost completely severed. • Owners of property. will . bo' well advised not to 'delay, too long in, getting ' their houses connected wherever the. sewers'-are in position, for .the reason that the council will send. out. nor tices shortly requiring .this.to 'be done. .The, nightsoil services will .be , discontinued,' and those who delay might be .incommoded. Moreover, the plumbers could not cope immediately with a heavy rush, ■ and inconvenience would be caused.,,, ,

The. same remarks apply to' that portion of Roseneath on the city, side of the ridge. The. .other side is 'not yet 'ready,:.for any connections. On the latter. side,' an alteration is being made; it has been 1 decided to. extend the Shone system, and, to pump sewage' from that area;_two small .ejectors having been provided. This obviates, the difficulty' in connection...with any, complaints which .might' .possibly be made concerning the: discharge of .'.sewage' into' the- harbour, even though a . septic tank .had been provided. A further objection to harbour, discharge would have - been Jn regard to. the oyster beds, which would have require'd to bo removed to a locality' less liable to contamination. ' As it is, there will not be any great delay, for the ejectors, have been ordered, and will be here very, shortly, and by the time the reticulation is finished they will be in position! ' . . The septic tank at Island Bay, is almost completed, and the main outfall. is being pushed on as vigorously as possible. Steady progress is being' mads with the tunnel at Island Bay'for the mains, threequarters of it 3 length having' been finished. Completion should bo arrived at in a month or so.
