THE CALL FOR CHARITABLE AID.

9 INCREASING IN AUCKLAND. (BY TBLEGIIAI'H—SPECIAL COUIIESrONDENT.) Auckland, March 18. The Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard's expenditure- in charitable aid during tho present year is showing an increase compared with former years. This is not attributed so much to any increased cost in the direction of outdoor relief, but is duo to some extent to the larger number of children who have been committed to industrial homes. Tho recent unemployed difficulty did not affect the calls upon tlie hoard, which very seldom has applications from able-bodied moii. There is, unfortunately, no diminution in the number of deserted wives or those with diunkcn husbands who became a charge upon the board.
