SWIMMING.
A good programme has been arranged by the Wellington Centre of the N.Z.A.S.A. for the carnival to be held at Te Aro Baths to-mor-row. The two championship events sot down for decision to-morrow should be keenly contested. The 100 yds. race will be a gathering of champions, the entrants being It. Ronayne (New Zealand champion), Fred. Roberts (provincial champion), B. 0. Jfreyberg (ex-New Zealand, champion), and E. Healy, who won four events at the recent New Zealand championship meeting. A big team of schoolboys tfill start in the two championship distances set down for them, while the open handicap races should be keenly contested. Afternoon tea is to be dispensed by a special sub-committee, and a band will be in attendance.
At the Thorndon Baths last night, the Thorndon Swimming Club held a 150 yds. race for a trophy presented by Br, A. L. Anderson. The water was rough aiid not conducive to good performances, but Healy, who started from scratch, and finished third, swam very well, covering the distance in lmin. 41sec. The result of the raco was:—R. Nelson (24sec), 1, time 2min. Ssec; A. W. Smith, 2; R. Healy (scr.), 3. Also started-D. M'Leod (24sec), V. L. Allan (22sec), I'. Roberts (Ssec), and 11. Ronayne (ssec).
