CHARGE OF CATTLE-STEALING.
iBT tUI.CCUAI'U.—srtciAI. CKRIt ITS PON UK NT,) rn, , , W.iP'-er, March 17. the first case at tho Supremo Court this morning was a charge of c-attle-stcalinc prolerroJ against UiUiam Brewer. When called William Brewer failad to appear, and tho waitod His counsel (~ir. Bolan) said that he coultl in no way account for tho untoruinato contictemps that had arisen. Hls (ilr./Justico Edwards) said that this kind ot thing was becoming; too common, but there was a simple remedy, which would mnko accused persons on bail surrender to tiieir recognisance if they did not appear. Tho Court should not allow itself to be treated with such indignity by men who had to answer to a criminal charge, l'ortunately, thore was a way of dealing with such gentlemen, and it was a way not at all pleasant to themselves. Brewer put in an appearance shortly afterwards, and his caso proceeded. Ho was found guilty with a strong recommendation to mercy. His/ Honour deferred passing sentence until Monday next. \
