INDIAN ANARCHISTS.
BOMB IN LAW BOOK.
HINDU PROPAGANDA IN LONDON. AN EXPOSURE. iiii TEi.tGiurn—rtiEss association—copteiout.) Calcutta, March 16. Letters show that the unsuccessful attempt on tho life of Magistrate Kingsford (to whom a bomb was sent concealed in a law book) was inspired by tho propaganda of Hindus in London, who havo been holding meetings in tho house of an Indian in Highgato. Tho doings of theso people wero exposed by "Tho Times" on February 13. "TAXATION THE ROOT OF THE TROUBLE." Our Auckland correspondent telegraphsA gentleman who has resided in India for somo years and who is at present in Auckland 011 a world's tour expressed yesterday i somewhat grave opinions regarding the sedition among the natives of India, lie stated that taxation was at tho root of tho trouble, tho labouring classes among the natives resenting strongly tho rating to which they are subjected. The revolt, ho said, was not so much, however, against British rule as against the administration. He related instances of attacks upon trains in Bengal, and expressed a conviction that, though tho declaration of what might be termed martial law would quieten Calcutta,»thc trouble would break out elsewhere unless strong measures wero taken. Hatters were bad in Calcutta when he left last Deccmbev, and he did not consider it safe for a European to go to Ce native quarter unless accompanied by a native. With its 350,000,000 inhabitants India was not an easy problem to grapple with.
