RAILWAY MANAGEMENT.

Sir, —Sinco tlio Government took over tlio 'Wollington-Manawatu railway complaints are frequently heard respecting the management, and it would appear that it is much loss efficient than under tlio former control. Thcro is, also, room for improvement in tlio working of the railway service, on tlio other sections converging on Palmcrston, and when tho subject of tho Addington incident is being considered by Parliament, as it undoubtedly will, it would be well if members were to devote their attention to tlio whole system of railway management, which affords amplo opportunity for improvement. Not only is it necessary that tho efficiency of tho rank and file, should be inquired into, but attention should bo given to the services rendered to tho State by highly-paid officers with a view to discovering where- tlio weakness in the service really exists. If tho business people of this town could havo realised what was likely to happen under State control I doubt very much if Palmerston residents would ever have agitated for tho acquirement of tho company's lino by tho State. Tho management now is not equal to what it formerly was, but has found its level with other sections of railway with which it is connected.—l am, etc., PALMERSTONIAN. Palmerston North, March 16.
