i THE POSITION OF COACH. ESSEX PLAYER APPLIES FOR IT. A meeting of tho committee of the Wellington Cricket Association was held last night, Mr. S. Jacobs presiding. The Wellington Publio Schools' Association was granted the use of representative wickets for a match against Wairarapa school representatives on Saturday morning and possibly on Monday. Mr. E. H. Williams, of Napier, wrote stating that ho would be pleased to do anything in his power to advance tho interests of tho association during his forthcoming visit to England. It was decided to thank Mr. Williams for his offer. Tho position as to championship matches was discussed. It was stated that the Basin Reserve and Athletic Park were taken for sports purposes on March 27, and that the Petone grouud was not available for next Saturday. Only the Waiwctu ground and tho Athletic Park were available for next Saturday. In regard to the junior championship, it was mentioned that Victoria College and Wa'destown were a tie. Some members seemed to think that players had had enough of cricket this season. It was agreed that the senior championship be declared closed. The question of arrears owing by various clubs formed the subject of a lengthy discussion. It was stated that about iHO was outstanding. A motion.was submitted that a final notice should be sent to the various clubs who owed anything above the amount of the last account 'which had been rendered. As an amendment it was proposed that all clubs which had been notified and had not paid amounts due outside the sum mentioned m the last account should bo immediately suspended until they paid, and that those clubs which had not been notified, should receive a fortnights notice. The amendment received most support, and upon being put as the motion was carried. With regard to the proposal to import a coach, it was reported that the amount guaranteed now totalled .£IOO per annum for three years. An application for the position had been forwarded by C. P. Buckcnham to the chairman. Buckenham stated that ho was desirous of obtaining the office of coach in ono of the principal towns in New Zealand. He would bo pleased to come for .£250, and secondclass passage to and from tho Dominion. His age was 33 years, and he was considered a good bat, and could bowl slow, medium, and fast as occasion required. For the past eleven years ho had represented Essex, and he had also taken part in representative matches in England. He felt sure that Lord Hawke and Mr. J. H. T. Douglas, of the M.C.C. touring team, would bo glad to recommend him. In connection with the application, the captain of the Essex team, C. H. M'Gahey, wrote that he had known Buckenham ■ for twelve years.. Ho was steady, hard-working, and generally liked. In addition to being a good bat, he was a splendid practice bowler, sind should make an excellent coach. The letter was received in the meantime. Tho following will represent Insurance in their annual match with Law, to take place on Wellington Collego grounds to-day, play commencing at 10.15 a.m. •.—Wilson, Harrison, Nowbold, Sheridan, Gledhill, Law, Parton, Dislicr, Stace, Hobday, Callonder, Braod. ■ The fancy dress cricket match to bo played at Newtown Park to-day (St. Patrick's Day), will commence at 2.30. It is under tho patronngo of the Governor, the Prime- Minister, and his Worship the Mayor. The Press team will consist of tho following :—Messrs. Cooke, Tonkin, Brown, Bock, Grigg, Gardener, Tolan, Bankin, Evans, Power, Orchard, Henry, Hinds, Mummory, Taylor. Wednesday Association:—Messrs. Cording, Castle, Tr'othoway, Coleman, Tassio, M'Facldeii, Huddleston, Gayfqrd, Lenman, Marshall, Elrick, Zinckgraf, M'Kay. A collection will be taken up during the afternoon.
