LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

SUBURBAN TRAIN SERVICE. Sir, —Allow mo to draw your attention to the way in which tho residents of Khandallab and Johnsonville havo been treated sinco tho Government took over tho Wol-lington-Manawatu railway lino. The opinion was freely expressed that when the Government acquired tlio lino tho pcoplo of theso districts would bo considerably benefited, but most of them now find that they aro not being as fairly treated as when tho company had tho management of tho service. Thero is ono particular instance of mismanagement which 1 desiro to point out. Tho 5.25 p.m. train from Wellington gets along fairly well until it reaches Ngaio, where it is very often kept waiting fully half an hour to allow an incoming goods' train to pass. This makes it considerably after six o'clock before it arrives at Khaudaliah. I do not know what timo tlio Johnsonville people must get When i the company had the lino this train left at 5.20 p.m., and usually reached Khaudaliah at 5.40. And further, I fail to seo why a passenger train should bo delayed awaiting tho arrival of a goods train. It is certainly gross mismanagement on tho part of those Who aro responsible. I trust that this will como. under tho notico of tho Minister for Railways, and that such a defect in tho suburban railway service will ho speedily remedied as I foci sure in saying what I havo said 1 am simply expressing tho thoughts of all tho_ passengers who aro unfortunate enough, like mj;self, to have to travel in the 5.25 p.m. train.— 1 am, etc., SUBURBAN RESIDENT. | Khaudaliah, March 5, 1009.
