ORGAN RECITAL.
Mr. Maughan Barnott made his bow to his audience at tho organ rccital in the Town Hall on Saturday evening, in a new role —Wellington's City Organist. Tho event marks the beginning of a new era in tho musical development of tho city, a distinct advance in the cultivation of the aesthetic aspect of citizenship. The rccital was fairly well attended, and most appreciatively listened to. Mr. Barnctt's repertoiro is so extensive and versatilo that his programmes aro invariably and characteristically reprosentativo; thero is never any suggestion of "could kail bet again" about them. True, certain compositions are often repeated in later programmes, but these signify concessions to an appreciative desiro on the part of the public to hear them again. Tho programrao on Saturday evening was an excellent ono. Capocchi's "Sonata in 6 Minor" was tho opening number, followed in appropriate contrast by an admirable "Andanto Cantabile," of Widor's; then camo Mozart's delightfully dainty "Minuet," succeeded by Bach's great "Fugue in G Minor." Following upon that brilliant and imposing composition came Schubert's beautiful "Am Meer," and the organist's graceful and artistic "Intermezzo." Tho recital concluded with Wolstenholme's brilliant "Paques Fleuries."
