ROWING.
(By Mebcubt.> FIXTURES. In Session.—W.R.C. Club Double Sculls; S.IJ.C. Junior nnd Senior Pairs. Easter Monday.—Whelch-Fogivell Match (Akaroa). Tho following is from an Auckland excliango:— "It is understood that there will ho an endeavour mado to havo the crows which rowed first and second in tho Champion Fours at tho championship regatta held at Mercor last month (Waitemata and Blenheim) selected as an eight-oar crow to represent New Zealand at tho Australian championship mooting, which will bo held at Brisbane in April. As both crews aro willing to train and get the necessary leave to mako the trip, this should bo a good opportunity to get New Zealand represented at such an important aquntic function.. The men for stamina, physique, and experienced oarsmanship would bo hard to beat. They aro tho best men now competing in New Zealandj as their performances at , tho last two championship meetings show. Every facility for training and final coaching can bo arranged in Auckland (where an eight can bo procured) before tho crew leavo these- shores to sail for Brisbane. Tho opportunity to bo represented at an inter-State championship regatta should not he missed by the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association. It is hoped when tho council is approached by the governing bodios of the two clubs they will give tho matter their fullest consideration." Sinco tho abovo was written, tho Council of tho N.Z.A.R.A. has 'dealt with the matter. In consequence nothing moro will bo done in tho matter, as the council held that it was too lato for tho men to get together in the boat this season, and that no good purposo would bo served by sending a crew away unless it could go under tho most favourable circumstances. Tho proposal brought forth fruit, however, as it was decided to take measures looking to tho dispatch of a fouroared crew to Australia next season if an inter-State race wero included in tho championship programme. Dick Arnst has gone back to his old love, j the bicycle. His name appears among tho entries of the Dominion Sports Club mooting hold last Saturday. The lapse is only a temporary ono, as ho is employed at present in keeping Fogwell up to concert pitch for his match with Whelch at Akaroa at Easter time. Ex-chauipion W. Webb is also on the spot now, looking after Whelch. ' Says "Nautilus" in tho "Rcforeo":—Cable news from England tells us that Barry will only allow Arnst £150 expenses for his trip Homo. Wo aro also told that Arnst is willing to accept the offer. Tho wisdom of this course is doubtful. Dick Arnst has a solid asset in the shape of the championship, which tho Englishman is anxious to obtain, and as ho will not. come out here, he should pay for tho privilege of having tho title taken Homo' for him to tilt at. In any ease, the danger of men going from here to England and finding tho climate unsuitable to them is a real one, and in my opinion Arnst would ho wise to stand out for his full £200.
