The Iroquois Club, Chicago, warmly cheered tlio explanation of Mr. Dickinson (Secretary of War) regarding why he, a Democrat, had joined a Republican Cabinet. He emphasised the fact of President Taft's affection for the South, and atldod: — "Yet lie wits unable- to select a Southern Republican without perpetuating bitter sectionalism; henco ho magnanimously choso a Democrat who had voted against him." Mr. Dickinson expressed the belief that tho South approved of his acceptance of office.
