ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS.
"Constant Reader," Dalefield.—The exact amount of pasturing that is safo on lucerne is still undetermined. It is, perhaps, rather strong to say that "cows put into a paddock of lucerne on a wot day for a few hours have a big chance of petting blown," so that they "swell up until they burst" ; but ono certainly would not bo wiso to choose a wet day to givo stock their first tasto of lucerne, nor to leave them in for many hours. Stock should never have lucerne exclusively for moro than a fow days. It is really best not to grasw lucerne at all. It is best cut at tho stage when tlio new shoots begin to , nls h out down at tho crown of tho plant, and either fed direct or stacked as hay or silage. September and October would be irood months for sowing. Any seed firm in Wellington will doubtless bo able to supply seed from this week oaward"
