—« »^ •WELLINGTON AMATEUR CLUB RACE. Swimming has been booming nt the Te Aro Baths this week, five events having been got off up to the present, and the Swifts Club will hold a inilo handicap race to-night. The Wellington Amateur Swimming Club got off the first race for the Missen Cup (220 yds.) at the To Aro Baths last evening. A large entrj turned out for tho event, which resulted in an easy win for H. Capper by about 20 yards. H. Dclanoy occupied second placo, and N. ,T, Gandy third. B. C. Freyborg was conceding Ward IGsec, and, at 150 yds., most of tho interest was centred on these two. At 100 yards from.home. Ward was about a yard ahead, and a closo finish .resulted in Ward winning by a touch. . ■ Results as follow:—H. Capper, Msec, 1; H. Delancy, 62sec, 2; N. J. Galidv, sisec, 3. Ward, 16sec; B. C. Freyberg, scr. Time, 3min. 11 3-ssec. AT THORNDON BATHS. At tho Thorn'dori Baths last ovoning, tho Thorndon Swimming Club got off a 200 Yards Handicap. Tho weather conditions wero perfect, and the- water, being calm, was conducive to good swimming. Twelve competitors faced the starter, and- a very oven raco resulted as follows:— V. L. Allan, 3Ssec, 1; R. Nelson, 36sec, 2; F. Roberts, 16sec, 3. Also started: A. W. Smith, 66scc.; R. Kennedy, 50sec.; J". Nelson, 48scc.j W. Bey, 46sec; D. M'Leod, 36sec; C. Brice, 30sec; G. Bruce, 24scc., R. Rouayne lOsec.; and R. Healy, scr. Healy put up a remarkably good performance by cutting out the distance in 2niin. 23sec, and finishing up very closo to tho placed men. By getting into third placo P. Roberts is now leading for the Ward Challenge' Cup, "with H points; V. L. Allan comes' next with 10; R. Healy, 9; and K. Ronayne, .8; " Y.M&A. CLUB. The Y.M.G.A. Swimming Club got off the first distance (100 yards) for the Crouch Challen»e Shield at Te. Aro Baths yesterday evening, lhere were only six starters, and the race resulted in a win as follows:— R. Baker, ssec, 1; W. J. A. Chartres, 3sec,' 2; G. P. Hanna, Usee, 3. Also started: R. K. Parton, 19sec.; W. L. AVilson, lOsec; J. H Mawby, scr. Time, fiOsec A close finish. Two other races-over 50 yards and 220 vards-aro to take place at future dates. ' ■
