I (FIIOII OUR special unronTEr..) JOTTINGS. The polico headquarters in Petone are now in KlizabcHi Street, .Sergeant Forster having this week taken up his residence in I lie new dwelling. The police station, though decidedly small, is somewhat of an improvement upon the old accommodation in Nelson Street. The ladies of Petono gave an enjoyable euchre party and dance in St. Augustine's Schoolroom last evening, to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Alexander. Mr. Alexander, who is an old resident of Pctone, and has been in business as builder and contractor for some vears, is leaving to engage in sawmilling at Whileman s Valley. Mr. J. W. M'Ewan, Mavor of Petone, intimates that ho is prepared to accept oflico for another term. No other candidates have vet announced their intention of contesting the leloiio Mayoral election next month. A harvest thanskgiving service was held last evening m St. Augustine's Church. The Eev. Mr. bykes, ot Upper Ilntt, preached an appropriate sermon, llr. Snell reading the lessons. Led by Mr. J. Slicrwin, the choir sang a special anthem, 1 hou Crownest the Year." The church was tastefully decorated for the ser-1 vice.
PETONE CITIZENS' BAND
The Petone Citizens' Band, winners of tho 13 grade competition at the recent Hastings contest, gave an open-air concert on tho Petone Recreation Ground last oveuiug. As this was their first performance in public since their triumphant homecoming, a large number of people assembled, and the weather was entirelv favourable. The takings at the g?te were about .&,, which sum will he added to the subscriptions already collected for the Penguin wreck fund. Lieut ITerd conducted the band, hongs of Northern Scotland." AN ANNIVERSARY. The twenty-fifth anniversary of the SundaySchool in connec ion with the Petone Wesleyan Methodist Church was celebrated last evemim Ihe church was crowded, and the children assembled on a large temporary stage, sang special anniversary hymns. Songs were contributed by tho Rev. and Mrs. Channel] and Airs. Ferguson Mr. AVatney Sibun played a violin solo, and Mr. R. G. House added a recitation. The Rev R.
