CENTENARY OF CORUNNA.

WREATHS PLACED ON GRAVE OF SIR JOHN MOORE. • Celebrations of tho centenary of the death of Sir John Mooro, tho hero of the struggle against Napoleon's forces in Spain, wero held at Corunna on January 16. Tho largo assembly at tho gravo included tho British residents and many Spanish officers. Tho British Consul placed a laurel wreath on tho tomb in ■ tho namo of the British Army. Representatives of tho Spanish Army and Navy also brought wreaths. Later, at the British Consulate, sixty Spanish officers wore entertained to lunch, and cordial arid complimentary speeches were made. At liight there was a torchlight procession. A largo Union Jack, together with laurel wreaths and llowers, was placed on tho Sir John Mooro memorial in St. Paul's Cathedral on January 10, when a memorial service, conducted by Canon Newbolt find Canon Clarke, was held. Sir John Moore was born in Glasgow, and his statue by Klaxman, cast from caiinon taken from the enemy, stands in George Square. l''or tho decoration of the statue wreaths of laurel were sent from Curragh Camp by Colonel Burton and the ofliccrs of the Black, Watch (■l2nd Highlanders), and by tho sergeants of the same regiment; from Aldershot by Colonel Gordon and tho ollicers of the Gordon Highlanders; by the Gordon Highlanders' Association in Glasgow; and by the Glasgow Corporation.
