Lord and Lady l'lunkct arc nt present in Wellington. J lis Excellency presided at a meeting of the Executive Council yesterday morning. The Governor and Lady l'lunkct will visit Trcntham on Friday, when Lady l'lunkct will present the prizes to the suocessful competitors at the rifle meeting. Their Excellencies will return to I'almerstoa North on Saturday. His Excellency the Govornor, with the Hon. J. Carroll, Native Minister, and tho Hon. A. T. Ngata, member of the Executive representing the Native race, will leave AVellington next week on a visit to tho Urcwera country. The Government steamer Tutanekai will take them to a suitable point on tho East Coast. About a fortnight will be spent oil the trip. Mr. W. Eraser, M.P. for Wnkatipu, has returned to Wellington. Tho Hon. H. F. Wigram, M.L.C., and Doctors Newell, Fergus, and Rogers arrived by the Mararoa from Lyttclton yesterday. Mr. E. X. do Castro, cliief clerk of the Education Department, is cxpcctcd back tonight from Rotorua. Mr. T. Humphries, Commissioner of Crown Lands, leaves on a Departmental visit to tho south next Tuesday. Dr. Pomarc, Chief Health Officcr to tho Maoris, is 011 a visit to Gisbornc. Ho is cxpcctcd back this week. Messrs. J. 11. Reid and W. H. Quick havo been reappointed to represent tho Government on tiie directorate of the Bank of Now Zealand. Tho Rev. T. G. Kay, of Wadestown, will leave 011 a trip to England in May. Tho Rev. J. C. Atkinson, of 'Clayton, Victoria, will bo his locum tenons. i : Mr. M. R. Hunter, of tho Sydney branch of tho Tourist Department, is resigning at tho end of tho month to join the literary staff of the Sydney "Daily Telegraph." Sir. W. l'ryor, secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, is travelling overland from Westport to Nelson, and expects to arrive in Wellington 011 Thursday evening. A Press Association telegram states that Mr. John Prior, tho oldest solicitor in Fcilding, received a presentation from tile Feeding Law Society prior to leaving 011 a visit to the Old Country. Mr. H. H. Cork, 'senior clerk in tho Masterton Post' Office, has been promoted to bo, postmaster at Levin, whero lie will take up his duties in abost a fortnight. Mr. H. E. Moore, of Hawera, fills the vacancy. Tho Rev. Father Hurley, of tho teaching staff of St. Patrick's College, has been transferred to St. Jc-sc-ph's parish, Bucklo Street. Bishop of Ne\y.York) had died, leaving an estate estimated at ten million pounds. Tho late Mrs. Potter, it may bo explained, was a wealthy widow beforo sho married tho llisbop, being then known as Mrs. Alfred Corning Clark. Mr. Peter M'Crackan, a member of tho Tainianian Upper House, and senior alderman of tho City of Launfccston, has been paying a short visit to Wellington. Ho is touring the Dominion, unaccompanied, for health and 1 pleasure, and has already visited tho Bluff, Diinedhv tho Cold Lakes district, Christclnirch, and several South Island towns. Ho leaves for tho north to-day. ' At tho conclusion of High Mass at tho Church of tho Sacred Heart, Auckland, 011 Sunday morning, an interesting ceremony took place in tho adjoining .sphoolroom, when, 011 belialf of the parishioners, the Hon. J. A. Tole presented to tho Rev. Father Edge a handsome gold watch suitably inscribed. Mr. Tole made referenco to the high esteem in which tho recipient was held by his flock, and also to liis splendid efforts in freeing tho parish from the debt under'which it laboured when 110 took charge.
