Sir James Barr, of Liverpool, and his son, Mr. Tudor Barr, left Beatenbcrg, Switzerland, _ without guides with the intention of climbing the foot-of the Matterhorn, 6445 ft. high. They lost their way on the mountain, but wore rescued at two in the morning by Swiss guides. Mr. Tudor Barr was suffering from frost-bite. Both gentlemen were brought down safely that afternoon, and are recovering from their experience. Sir James Barr is senior physician at Liverpool Royal Infirmary, and chairman of the Medical Faculty, Liverpool University. The traversing of the Bernese Oberland from end to end from Kandersteg to Mciringen has just been accomplished for the first time on ski by two members of the Alpine Ski Club, Professor Ixoget, of Geneva University, and Arnold Lunn, an Oxford undergraduate. The journey occupied six clays along a high, level route. The climbers slept four nights in club huts at an altitudo of over 10,000 ft. They crossed the Petersgrat, Lotschcnlucke, Grunhornlucke, and Oberaariocli, and climbed the Finisteraarhorn, the highest peak of the Bernese Alps,' which is 14.025 ft. high. Perfect weather prevailed throughout the trip.
