MAIDEN SPEECH AT 104.
Mrs. Rebecca Clarke, who celebrated her 104 th birthday last Juno, took the chair and mado her maiden spccch at a New Year's dinner and entertainment to tlio poor people of tho district, hold at the Salvation' Army Barracks, Wood Green. She said:— "I have been very pleased to have such a nice dinner, and I hope you aro all as satisfied as I am," began the venerable orator. "I don't always get such a good dinner at home myself, but then, I never cooked on Sundays because I liked to _ havo a little rest. I have had nine children, ladies and gentlemen, and I brought them up very plain. Pudding before meat and never anv stimulants only water. I sent them to school, too and if they didn't go they got no dinner! And now I hope I have said enough, because I am a very old woman. A bapnv Now Year to you all."
