PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Last night's meeting of tho Petone Borough Council was attended by Mr. J. W. M'Ewan (Mayor), and Councillors Cole, Short, Young,; Harding, Loilder, Castle, Smith, and Colquhoun. Eeporting in connection with the,complaint of non-lighting street lamps at Korokoro, the engineer stated that, in his opinion, tho lamps had been turned out by boys. The engineer further reported that ho had made thorough examination of the gaspipes leading to the Navals' shed, and was satisfied that no leak , existed, and that the meter was in perfect working order. In order that complete control of the water mains might be obtained in case of fire, valves and others fittings to cost .£276 would be required. Operations in connection with the eastern drainage scheme were well forward. The roport was adopted. The Hutt Valley Tramway Board applied for a twenty years' lease of a section in Cuba Street, to be used for tramway sheds. Tho Mayor stated that the Government valuation was i£47o. On the motion of Councillor Lodder, it was agreed to offer the land for fourteen years at a rental of j!3O per annum, and for the remaining six years at five per cent, on the capital value of the land.
