UPPER HUTT TOWN BOARD.
All the commissioners attended the fortnightly meeting of the Upper- Sutt Town Board, held this week, Mr. Benge, chairmau, presiding. ~... , ;,• .' Letters were received'-from the Eastboumo .Borough Council, Valuation Department, Messrs. T. K. Macdonald Ltd., and the District Land Registrar on public matters. It was decided to inform tlio Waldegravo Park Syndicate that no opposition would ■bo made to the dedication of its roads if tho syndicate at onco undertook to liavo the gorse pulled which had sprung up in tho 'metal.
With regard to lloyal Street, and tile letter from Messrs. T: K. Macdonald , Ltd., good progress was reported on the part of the contractors, and it was dccided that the "Works Committee should oxamino the works when completed, and, on its'certifying that :it satisfied| ; with what had been carried out,' the chairman was authorised tho plan and return the samo sealed to Messrs. Macdonald Ltd.
With regard to the letter ,of the District Land Registrar relativo to an application to obtain an L.T. title to certain lands on the Hutt 'River bank beyond tho Wakatike Road, it was decided to safeguard tho interests of tho board in this connection, and, ■if needed, to lodge a caveat against''-the isstio of a titlo to certain lands. ... ' ' ,
The Works Committee • reported upon Pino Avenuo requirements. Main. Eoad alterations near tho Anglican Church, William Street metalling, and Main' Road repair at tho western end of tho settlement. Tho committee had : rio recommendation to make relative to- paving tho footpath near tho new post-office at present. Tho report was adopted. It was decided to call for tenders for the supply of 300 cubic yards of clean metal for tho Main Road repairs during tho coming winter, the metal to be'-, stacked at suitable locations at each end and in tho centre of the district. It was decided to invite tenders .also for metal to repair the Main Road from Benzie Avenuo to the western'boundary of the Main Road. Tho Pine Avenue trimming and metalling were lield over until after, tho "reserve metal" contract had been completed. Tho William Street metalling was ordered to be completed for a further distance. An extra roadman was ordered to he engaged, making four in all. Tho roads leading to the Goods Shed arc to be given early attention, so as 'to bo in good order for tho winter.
it was unanimously resolved to tendor to tho Town Clerk of Eastbourne the hearty thanks of the Town Board for his courtesy in supplying- information to the board. _ , Summonses aro to bo -issued in all cases of wandering stock, whether impounded or not. '.
The clerk reported the issuo of three building permits since last 'fortnightly meeting. A number of summonses (43) have been issued for rates due on October 14, 1908, and a further batch is being prepared in respect of rates clue on January 13, 1909. slr. Jacob Geange was allowed the temporary use of the board's • stable to store straw, at a rental of 2s. per week during the pleasure of the board. It was decided to again ask tho Hutt County Council to supply the Town Board with a copy of its balance-sheet for tho year ended March 31, 1903, which tho County Council promised to supply in August last.
