A SAD ACCIDENT.

A WELLINGTON MINISTER'S SON DROWNED, (nit TKtEOßira—riiEss association.) Auckland, March 4. Another drowning accident, tho third during the past week, took place this afternoon off Shelly Beach, Ponsonby. the victim being a young man named John) Cliff Dawson, son of tho Rev. John Dawson, of tho Primitive Methodist Church of Wellington. Mr. Dawson went out for a row in tho afternoon with a number of companions, and tho boat was put into Shelly Beach at his request so that ho might go in for a swim. Not being able to swim very well, he got into difficulties. A companion, Mr. A. Carbine, went to his aid, and the two wero struggling in the water for some time. They called out for assistance from persons on the shore, but at first tho lookers-on, thinking it was only a joke, did not respond. Afterwards one person .went to them, but by tho time ho readied 'the spot both men were pretty well exhausted. Immediately afterwards anothor man came, and a boat was also put off. Carbine was got on board the',boat, but Dawson disappeared. The body has not yet been recovered. The deceased was only 19 years of age. Ho and his sister were on a visit to Auckland, and were to have left to-morrow on their return to Wellington.

A BOY DROWNED. Word was received yesterday that ClifF6 Dawson, second son of the Eev. John Dawson, of this city, had been accidentally drowned at Shelley Beach, Auckland. The deceased lad, who was 19 years of age, and a -hoy of much promise, had been spending n holiday in the north. Ho was cmployod by Mr. G. Winder. Tho Kov. P. W. Isitt announced tlio sad news at the meeting of the Methodist Conference last evening. Tho conference placed 011 record its condolence and sympathy with Mr. Dawson and his family ill their bereavement. Tho news was learned by tho excursionists who had arranged to hold a No-Licenso moonlight excursion on tho harbour when thoy were about to embark last ovening. In view of tho sad occurrence, tho speeches which were to have been given at Day's Bay we.ro omitted. On tho return journey by the Duchess, tho Rev. A. Dowdney referred to the nows which had been recoivcd, and oil his motion a resolution of sympathy and condolenco was passed, which it was agreed to convey to Mr. Dawson. _
