DYING MAN ARRESTED. MISTAKEN FOR' AN INEBRIATE. (BY TELEGRAPE-r'l'ltESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedln, March 4. A man, named Samuel Campbell, died in the hospital to-night. Tho circumstances surrounding his death are somewhat remarkable. On Monday evening lie was found in tho street in an unconscious condition, but a constable arrived at the conclusion that the man was suffering from intoxication, and arrested him. Next morning it was found impossible to arouso him to bring him beforo the Court, and, after medical advice bad been obtained, ho was removed to the hospital, where it was discovered ho was suffering from hemorrhage of_ tho brain. Deceased did not recover consciousness after the accident, which is believed to be duo to a fall on tho pavement. AN INQUEST. (BT TELUGRAFR —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) New Plymouth, March 4. An inquest on tho body of an elderly woman, found iu a dying condition hero yesterday, and who expired on the way to the hospital, was opened to-day. Tho polico reported that they had not yet identified tho body. The inquest was adjourned till next Wednesday to permit further inquiries. Later. It is now almost certain that the woman found dead yesterday is Mrs. Nicholson, lately employed as a cook in Stratford. Sho has relatives in Wellington. RAILWAY TAPPER BADLY HURT. (BY TELEGRAPH —PI!ESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, March 4. A man named Charles Kcelcy, a wheeltapper on tho railway, was badly injured this morning at Balclutha. He stepped from the carriago platform of tho express standing at the station and was struck by a shunt-' ing engine ■ then passing at a fair pace. Ho was knocked a considerable distance, and sustained an injury to tho collarbone ana' it is feared that his spmo is badly hurt. During tho afternoon Iveeley was removed to Duncdin and convoyed to tho hospital. Ho is a married man, about 50 years of age, ana has a family of six.
