He was president of the Silk Association of Grert Britain and' lieland and Hon. Expert Refereo on' Silk to the Imporial Institute. Sir Thomas was a Follow of tho Geographical Society, and the .Chemical Society, and author of numerous publications. He was instrumental in causing silk to be grown in Kashmir.
