and thus reducing Healy's figures by 1 l-ssec. The visitor also established fresh records for the baths for 33 yards and 66 yards, with 15sec. and 36 l-ssec. respectively. Solomon's performancfe was the more meritorious because of the fact that he swam in well water, which, according .to Mr. P. R. Staploton, handicapper and starter, is several seconds slower than salt water. Solomon's time for tho 66 yards was barely a second outside the world's,record. In a letter to "The Sportsman" from New York, Miss Annette Kellerman , writes:—"l want to tell you that I have said good-bye; to long-distance swimming, and. am now a vaudeville artist, appearing in a sketch 'On the Beach at Boulogne.' I have stajted my fifth week at the Fifth Avenue Theatre, and expect it to. run in Now York throughout the winter. .;.. My 'oraziness' for .'.he stage has been'rewarded, for I am now doing a whole pantomime sketch, introducing dancing/ diabolo,! diving, and flirting. The act is quite 'Frenchy,':as it gives, me more: scope. I' am about to introduce a French song. I shallho. very busy: for, the next 'five lyears. ,B. F. Keith, for whom I- work the show, spent nearly £700, over: the mirror act, arid now that it is such a success he.is 'tickled to death.' He has a special car for me, and has engaged three' l engineers and fourteen men to put up the tank at,each place. I've been doing the act for ten .weeks now, and. have never seen anything but crowded houses. ■ I am not 'swollen-headed' at,all,, but must confess.that'my enthusiasm has: 'carried me .away.. It v all . means a fortune to me. I've been working hard for all.this. I weigh just 10 stone, and have' not varied, for. nearly, twelve months."
