RE THE PENGUIN DISASTER FUND.
.. Sir,—There appeared' a letter in- the evenpjper of .Friday's issue (signed "Bona' Fide ), in which the writer expresses sur-prise-at the apathy displayed by the wealthy classes in_ our community in not coming, forward-with help in-the shapo.-of donations, etc., especially mentioning, . tho Governor, Prime Minister, ani others, , which, of course • .is alright as far as it goes. But what has the Union S.S. Co. done in that direction? In my opinion, there is only one source the public shonld look to for the relief of the sufferero, udd. that .is' the TJ.S.S., Co., and in stating so I know I am voicing the opinions of- the bulk of the population in this country. Of course, there are personal friends of the- unfortunate victims who would like to contribute their mite in the cause, myself among them, but still the main source of relief should'come: from the company referred to.—l am, etc.,
JUSTICE. ; JThe company has donated £500 to the disaster fund. So far as the tmancial: aspect of the disaster is concerned, it should not bo overlooked that the company is tho heaviest loser in the sad affair.] •;•••
