'» Auckland, February 14 The J New Zealand" Rowing ' Association's championships were decided at Mercer yestefday before an attendanco of over 3000. The,day was delightfully fine, and the water smooth. The racing was keenly interesting, tho , champion fours providing a struggle between the Waitemata and TBlenheim orews worthy of the.race. The Waikato River at Mercer provides ,a .beautiful stretch of water cf sufficient length for persons at the winning post to view the longest race of the day,, two miles from the start. The Union (Christchurch) Club's pair, Fry and'O'Brien, • annexed the Champion Pair oars and Champion s 'Double Sculls, the Waitemata (Auckland) 1 crew won tho Champion Fours, and C'E. Stone, of St. George's (Auckland) Club, won the Champion Single Sculls. The vmnors*6f. other, ©vents were woll-distii--1 ted.-' Union l '(Napier) won the Maiden Pair Oirs' and Junior Double Scullb, Blenheim won'the Auckland Plato (senior fours), West Etid'non' the Light-weight Maiden Fours and Light-weight Junior Fours, North Shore won -tne 'Junior Pair Oars and Maiden Doubie Sculls, Waitemata won tho i Heavyweight Maiden Fours, St. George's won the Youths' Fours and Maiden Sculls (T. Stotoe), and-. Ngaruawahia won the Heavy-weight Juniors. The regatta was .splendidly organised and managed by the executive of , the ' Auckland Bowing Association, the events of the day being run off smoothly and>,without a hitch of any kind. The only ■unpleasant feature of 'the day was the foul in',th(< Champion Single Sculls," Richards, of Auckland, rowing across four others when about half a mile had been covered, 'causing them' to stop.
