FoxtOrt', February 10 At tho S.M. Court yesterday tho magistrate, Mr. Thomson, imposed tho maximum sno of £5 on F. S. Eaaton, flaxmillcr and farmer, for having used insulting language; ito Constable Woods, m a public place. Fiom the evidence it appeared that Easton was dissatisfied with tho evidence of Woods in a previous actimi, winch caused him to use tho language complained of. The magistrate emphatically declined to increase tho fine to enable an appeal to bo lodged. AN ADMIRAL'S THANKS. , Rotorua, February 10. The following letter, whioll was" sent by Admiral A. ' ' Duncdln, February 10. >At a meeting,of the City Council, held - to-night, a motion, was' passed regretting that,'in consequence or sections iin the Local Bodies' Loans Amendment Act, 1908, it is compelled to i avoid making use in future loans of sinking fund commissioners, whoso lefforts have, earned handsome returns for the city in tho past. A protest waß entered against the compulsion to appoint a public trustee, and it was decided to request Parliament to remove the objcotionablo sections. A cottago hospital was opened at Kaitangata to-day by, Mr. J.,11. Walker, channiau of tho Dunedln Hospital Board, The hospital, which- contains six beds, is designed to meet oases of accident. The local Borough Council gave the site, and local subscription completed and furnished the building, whioi' opened lroo of debt.
