District .Electors' Association held a meeting last evening .to consider ways and means of "stirring up' the City Council in the matter of the lyell Bay tramway extension. line, i The position of affairs,' as -explained by one of the speakers at the meeting was that by some meana the trustees of the land at Lyell Bay, dedicated to the 'council by Mr. E. D, Crawford, had, in the survey plan, of the proposed. line, trespassed upon a Government reservo, arid, the' Government, beooraing aware : of that fact, had proposed certain terms of transfer of title, on a basis of exchange. These terms, Mr. A. E. Pearce, one of the two trustees, had readily agreed to, but the- other' trustee, the Hon. T. W. Hi6lop (Mayor of Wellington), had refused to fall in with the suggestions of the Government. Meanwhile the latter has lodged a caveat, and the completion of theline, tho road-bed of which is now ready for-the rails, is hung up. Frew presided, were of a unanimous charaoter, it being finally resolved that a reprenentative deputation, consisting; of Messrs. Smith (spokesmen),. Clater, Frier, Harrison Stanford, Jameson, and Cowie, wait upon the City Connoil atß p.m. on Thursday,, for the purpose of ventilating the whole matter. ..It. was decided that the meetings of the association be held on the second, Wednesday in each month.
