PORTUGAL'S NEW QUEEN.
A great deal of speculation is going on-in Lortugal as to'who is to be King Manuel's f Queen (says an English paper). ' Already quite a number of eligible royal" ladies'have been,mentioned as likely candidates for the honour; tea very good authority, the, young monarch' has a will of his own, and has declared- his intention of one day wedding a young lady of.his own choosing who is not regarded very favourably by the Queen-mother and the Court generally. It seems that bos Majesty has for long shown great affection for a young girl belonging to ' an aristocratic but non-royal Portuguese fami\y, whose mother', is a lady-in-waiting to Queen Amehe. Some time,ago Queen Amcho was conversing with a high and trusted Court official about the desirability of the Kinn forming an alliance., .Standing near hit Majesty overheard the drift of the conversation and suddenly declared to them his love tor the young, lady in question.
