The totalnnmber of depositors in the Auckland Savings Bank in 1908, as shown in the balance-sheet,of that institution, was 41,572, and the gross amounts of deposits in the bank is £1,145,849 19s. lid.; The following figures represent the total amounts.at the credit of depositors of the sums mentioned :— £20 and under, £101,376 Bs.: between £20 and £50, £166,978 17s. 2d.; between £60 and £100, £284,073 6s. 4d. j the whole being upwards of £100, £580,208 6s. 10d. The total amount at credit of the penny banks is £13,213 Is. Id. The total deposited in tho bank at the close of 1899 was £653,699, and at the end of 1908 it had grown to £1,145,883. Tho particulars as to the operations of the penny bank for the past ten years are interesting.- In 1899 the amount deposited was £3029 16s. lid., and the number of accounts remaining open on December -31 was 7157, the amount at credit of depositors being £7529. Last year the accounts totalled. 13,340, the amount deposited was £5099 9s. 5d., and the total at oredit of depositors at the end of the year was £13,213 Is. Id.
