Weddings. A wedding, in which * considerable -local interest was taken, was celebrated at the residence of Mr. W. Lenz, Kuiipum, on Wednesday, when Mr. Oliver Shute, son of Mr George Shute, of Upper Plain, was married to Miss Jessio Budd, joungest daughter of Mr. W Budd, of Masterton. The bride, who was given away by Mr. W. Lenz (her brother-in-law) wore a costume of navy blue and pretty white chiffon hat The bridesmaids, Miss Eva Lenz, Miss Mabel Budd (nieces of the bride), and Miss Mabel Shute, sister of the bridegroom, wore prcttj white silk muslin dresses, with pale blue sashes and hats to match. Mr. W. Kemp was best man, and the ceremony was performed by the Rev J. N. Buttle. At the residence of Mr..and Mrs. H Oalhster, on Thursday afternoon, at "Brook-, lyn," Carterton, Miss Mary Callister was' married to Mr. William Thomas Sloan, of Wellington. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. J. Elliott. Only rclati\es of ' the bride and bridegroom were present. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Millicont Callister, and the bridegroom by Mr. Robert Richmond. Kelburne Lady Bowlers. The Kelburne lady bowlers had a delightful time on the same afternoon, when, on the invitation of the Eastbourne Bowling Club, two rinks from their club went across to pjay Eastbourne. Tho games were played on Mr. Shortt's beautiful green, and the home rinks won by one point. The afternoon was a very pleasant one, and the visitors very much appreciated all tho kindness and hospitality snonn to them by their hosts. The following aio the scores — Eastbourne—Messrs. Curry, Foley, W. F. Shortt, Smith (s.), 17; Kelburne Ladies— Miss Hartland, Mrs M'Villy, Mrs. Dawson, Miss Williams (s.), 20. ' Eastbourne—Messrs E Shortt, Wills, Missen, Fleming (b.), 21: Kelburne Ladies— Miss -Gannaway, Miss Webb, Mrs. Knowles, Mrs Miller (s.), 17. •A return match will be played on Wednesday, February 17/ ' Tennis at trie Bay, The tennis matches plajed by tho Victoria College, .Wellington, Biougham Hill, 'and Thorndon Clubs at Day's Bay on Saturday afternoon attracted a number of tennis enthusiasts to the Bay, and they all spent a most enjoyable time. Several ladies took over their, own tea arrangements, and gave little afternoon teas to their' friends out-of-doors, .the pleasantest way of serving it on such a glorious afternoon. Palmerston's District Nurse, A meeting of tho St. John Ambulance Dis. triot Nursing Division was held in AH Saints' Schoolroom last Thursday. Mrs L A. Abraham presided, and there were about twenty persons present. It was decided that of the hvo honorary members on the Executive three be gentlemen. The following honorary members were elected to the Executive: —Rev. C. C. Harper, Messrs. M'Leavey and Collmgwood, Mesdames Hewitt and M'Donald Mrs M'Donald was elected secretary of the Executive The six active members chosen were Mrs. Mowlera, Mrs. M'Grcgor, Mrs Morgan, Mrs. Harper, Miss Vincent, and Mrs. L. A. Abraham. Mr Aitchison recommended that tho ladies use theii best eliorts at the forthcoming floral feto to collect funds for the nurse It was generally considered that when \the public once saw the value of the nuise i to the community there would 'be no difficulty in obtaining subscriptions.
Mrs. MacShane, of Auckland, and Miss R, Cadman are visiting various .friends inr the Wairarapa just now ■> ' The >• garden fete given by the Ladies' Guild or Holy Trinity Church was held in the vicarage grounds, Woodville, on Wednesday. The ladies were fortunate enough ,to strike a splendid daj>and had the pleasure of a capital attendance. The grounds were very prettily and daintily arranged, with comfortable shades and lounges scattered about, so that the very maximum of cnjoy T ment could be obtained During the afternoon a number of competitions were held. , Mr. and Mrs. W. 'Howard Booth, from Carterton, are in town. ' Next Saturday afternoon a, garden party will be held "at Mr. J. F. Mills's home, Karori, in aid of the Anglican Church funds. Miss Elsie'Rawson, who has been visiting Mrs Holmes at Tiraumea, returned to Wellington on Friday. After several years' absence 1 from Wellington, Miss Alice Rawson is expected home at the end of March! She is coming by the Mongolia. ( Miss Riddiford is returning vto New Zealand by the Mongolia. Mr. Keene's beautiful grounds at Island Bay were the scene of a garden party hell on Saturday afternoon on behalf of the Baptist Women's Missionary »Union, when, lin addition 1 to the charm of the shady lawns and the brilliant gardens, a variety of other attractions were provided, in the shape of croquet ,tenms competitions, and music. Mr. and Mrs. J. Maunsell (Wairarapa) spent Christmas m Switzerland, and with thir sons intended to remain on the Continent fop several weeks. Later Mr.' and Sirs. Maunsell intend to take a trip to Egypt, leaving their sons at then* studies at Cambridge and Cheltenham. Madame > Ada Crossley and her party, who are on a visit to Rotorua, on Wednesday made a trip to the summit of Ngongotaha Mountain, expressing themselves delighted with the ,view obtained. The Rev. Lancelot F. Andrews, M.A., who for some years past has been one of the curates of All Saints' Church, Margaret Street, London, has (says an exchange) received preferment He has been appointed Private Chaplain to the Duke of Buccleuch at Dalkeith, Scotland. Mr. Andrews was out m New Zealand some time ago on a visit, and "while here he met tho lady who is now his wife—Miss I. Fitzherbert, daughter of the late Mr. W. Fitzherbert, of the Hutt.
