Largely owing to tho differences of opinion between these two schools, tho olootrincation of railways in Britain' has remained for some time in a state of suspended animation. Tho test of actual results snould soon bo complete. Although the distance between London Bridge and Victoria is only eight miles,, 25 miles of complicated traok had to bo equipped, and'eight trains and >84 motors are being provided. Tha honour of being first rests with the branch of ■ the Midland railway connecting Heysham, Morecambo, and Lancaster, which began electrio operation on April 18. The total length of single road is 21 miles, and tho, special rolling stock consists of three motor-coaches and six motors:,
