Nicholson; Yacht was'favoured with perfeot weather, for,its ocean race heia-on Saturday,afternoon,, and the course for-which was from Glasgow -Wharf- to andround : a_ launch off. Island Bay and Tjack to. the wharf. ,The. starters and: timekeepers were as under :-Syren (H. Chishdm), scr.: Janet (Dr. Makgi I); smin.; Mahina' (Dr Fell), 7mm ;. ViW, (Hobbend and Elton), 12mm..,- Patronus- IW. Crawford), 25min. Nanoya. (A. Holmes), 40min. The whole of the •■boats started off under full mainsails, and .Nanoya, Mahina, and Janet took the lead ,to:the Halswell buoy,: which was first reached by : Nanoya... After rounding the buoy and easing the sheets off at Kau Bay for the run down the entrance, the Mahina and Janet wfent to .the front,- but; Nanoya hung on weirm -the-rear.' 'Outside 'the Heads the weather was'still perfect;-and the various .boats, carried; their ..sail .without any difficulty., .The., leading ..boats, were' still clpse_toßfithor .when Island Bay was reached, but Mahina was leading,, and . rounded the buoy. half, a minute ahead of the' Janet.
