ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
DROWNED IN A DRAIN. (BY TELEUIUrn-r-FnESa iSSOCUTION.) /Chrlstehuroh, January 28. At the inquest to-day on tho body of Henry Bonnotfc, of Preston'e Read; Styx, the coroner returned a verdict that deceased _ had committed euicido while in a state of urisound mind. The evidence showed that deceased, who wns a single man of about 60 years of ao;o, after leaving two notes that a land transaction Hud driven him mad, and he intended to compiit suicide, had drowned himself in a drain about three feet wido and with tivo feet of water in it. FATAL TRAP ACCIDENT. (Di TEi.piiurn—runs Assocrynos) Nelson, January 28. Mrs Eggers, a resident of Upper Moutero, was thrown from a trap this afternoon, find died a few hours later from shock. She was driving with three children 'when tho horso shied at a passing motor-car driven hy Mr. Arthur Maginnity,, of Nelson, and upset tho trap, Tho other'occupants wore uninjured The car was being driven at a slow rate, and' tho horso apparently swerved into tho ditch aU,the* side of tho road. DIED UNDER CHLOROFORM. A tologram received from Ot&ki by Inspector Ellison states that a resident of Weraroa, Mrs. Walsh, died at tho hospital at,lo o'clock yesterday morning whilst under chloroform.* An inquest wns to bo held fit 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. KNOCKED DOWN'BY A CAR. Frank Dußgery, a coal-howcr, residing in Taranaki Stroet, was run into by an electric car whilst crossing tho lino in Courtcnay Place last evening. Hβ received a nasty knock on the side of tho head, and was removed to the hospital for treatment.
