A SNAKE AND A HEROINE.
-The New Zealand school teachor misses eo'me golden oppprtunities for heroism by living in this peaceful, snakeless land, and she enjoys an ignoble security, vhilo her Australian sister fights battles with reptiles. When a snake suddenly appeared m\ the State school at ITairyvalo lately (sajs a Victorian paper), the lady teacher showed botn courage and .presence of mind. Sho first ordered all the children to get on top of the deska, and then advancing ioldly against the enemy, crippled him at'tne fijst-attempt. The admiration .of the pupils know no bounds. .'•Well done, teacher," said an < enthusiastic Bixth class,boy, who had strategically established himself upon tho highest desk. "You copped ,him first clout, didn't you." Another'boY"on "going'home that evening had the same'high estimate of the lady's valour, but didn't quite know how to express it. "My word," he said, "teacher was savage today. She Killed a snake all by herself."
