HALF-HOLIDAY CONFERENCE.
;.. WINIMOTJS FOR WEDNESDAY. -.- The statutory conference to decide on the weekly half-holiday was' held at the Town Hall yesterday afternoon. The representatives .present were: —Mayor 1 of Wellington, the' Hon. T.W. Hislop (in the chair),, Councillors J. Smith, J. Godbor, F. Cohen, : G. Shirtoliffo (Wellington City Council), Mr. J. G.'Harkness (Mayor of Onslow Borough), Mr. 0. Dasenfc (Mayor of Karori Borough), Councillor J, Brodio (Miramar Borough Council), arid' Mr. J. Rod (chairman of Jphnsonvillo Town Board). . Councillor Smith'moved : that . Wednesday be tho day for the weekly half-holiday. He considered that Wednesday was the most suitable day, and would bo favoured in preference to Saturday. It suited not only tho shopkeepers but the working men, because' with the Saturday afternoon off, workers had a long night on Friday, and ■ had to resume again on the Saturday morning. He believed that the city as a whole was in favour of . Wednesday. . . ; Mr. Rod secoi'decVtlip motion, and without any • discussion it was'carried unanimously.
