Councillor Smith'moved : that . Wednesday be tho day for the weekly half-holiday. He considered that Wednesday was the most suitable day, and would bo favoured in preference to Saturday. It suited not only tho shopkeepers but the working men, because' with the Saturday afternoon off, workers had a long night on Friday, and ■ had to resume again on the Saturday morning.
