A number of Karori residents attended the beautiful little'flower show held yesterday in the Parochial Hall, Karori, and they must havo enjoyed themselves quite as much as did the people who visited the large shows recently held in town. The ladies of the committee, Mesdames Dickersqn, M'Kenzio, Hislop, Simpson, and Tustin, provided afternoon tea, which was much appreciated by tho visitors - Among others who were present were Mrs. Hansell, Mrs ,J. P. Luke, Dr. Platts-Mills, Mrs. Hudson, the Misses Donald (2), Mrs. Stowoy, Mrs. Jas. Mackenzie, and 'her daughters, Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Waters, Mrs. T. Campbell,-Mrs. Davies, and Mrs. Prende'ville, •Miss Kdte Rooney writes to Sydney from London, December 4,'that'she will tour Australia this.year. ,The Sydney contralto, who has made such great headway in England, scored .a marked success at the Scotch Festival at the Albert Hall, London, recently. The same management tried to secure her for the Irish Festival at the same hall next March, but Miss Rooney was already engaged to sing exclusively for tho Gaelic" Festival the same evening at the Queen's Hall. This is tho singer's sixth year's engagement at this leading Irish Festival. Mra. J. White, from Anderson's Bay, Dunedin, is visiting Wellington, and is the guest of her sister Miss Holmes. The engagement is announced of Miss M. 'A. M'Donald, eldest daughter of- Mr. J. R. M'Donald, "Heatherlea," Levin,'to Mr 1 . P. B. Bartholomew, jun., of Weraroa, Levin. Tho Christehurch ladies who aro interesting, themselves in tho movement to raiso funds for the _ enlargement of Christehurch Hospital aro giving one special week to-the work, and in this Hospital Week there will be various devices for making money. Next Tuesday there is to be a fete in the hospital grounds, and for the following day a concert in the Choral Hall has been organised by Dr. Crooke. During the week the collectors for the-fund wiirbevery busy' making a house-to-house visitation in the | city and suburbs as well as in tho country districts, where collecting has already begun. .The specific object of theso ladies is to provide adequate accommodation for the child patients. Another of the fast diminishing band of early pioneers in the person of. Mrs. Marion Dudley, widow of the late Archdeacon Dudley, D.Di," passed away at her residence, Benmore, Onehunga, last' Monday- The deceased lady, who was 73 years df age, was born in England, being a daughter of the lato Rev.' J. F. Churton, and came out with her father to New Zealancj, in the year 1840. She was married, to ; the late Archdeacon Dudley in 1863, and was a zealous church worker with him up till" eight years ago, when he died. Since then Mrs. Dudley-had lived a retired life at her residence, Onehunga. She is survived by two, sons and three daughters. Sir Charles and Lady Campbell, who returned to Canterbury' last week, after a stay of \ two years in England, stre for a short timo the guests of Miss Robinson, at Park Terrace, before going to live at Cheviot. Miss M."Russell , ''and''Miss"-Fitzroy, of Hawke's Bay, at visiting friends in i Christchurch, i Lady Jane Gathorne-Hardy is visiting Christehurch, whero she is the guest of Mrs. Hugh, Acland. Miss Hoadley, from Napier, is the guest cf .MtlV G. G. Stead in Christehurch. Mr. and Mrs W. Dunning, of Pahiatua, ore "to leave on a trip to England in April next. - ' , Mrs. L. B. Mason, of Wellington, and Miss Irene Mason returned to .Wellington by the Maheno after a two months' -visit to Australia. Miss Berry, matron of the Hospital Nurses' Home,'leaves to-day for a month's visit to friends in Wanganui. * ( ' , Mrs.' Dan. O'Brie'n; of Sydney, is paying a short visit to Wellington. She left for Christehurch last night, Mr. A. H. Cockayne, - Assistant Government Biologist, and son of Dr. Cockayne, of Christchuroli, was married to-day at St. Paul's Cathedral to Miss Hutton, only daughter of Mr. J. A. Hutton, chief postmaster, Wellington. The Rev. D. -C. Bates officiated. - Mr: Norman Morgan was best man, and Miss Eila Hutton,' niece of the bride, bridesmaid., Mrs. Hardinge-Malthy, who arrived by tho lonic on Tuesday, intends to remain in Wellington with her daughter. Mrs. Beere and her daughter, Miss Estelle Beere, who left Wellington with the idea of going to England/ never got further en their way than Melbourne. Mrs. Beoro's illness quite prevented their taking so long a journeys and, the time would in any case have made the trip a very hurried one. During her .stay, in Melbourne, Miss Beere has taken the opportunity of meeting the leading dancing teachers, and has with them studiea the now American expressive system of grace culture which has become quite a craze in Melbourne. • The summer has been a very cool one, and on occasion the women have resorted to their furs so chilly has the weather been. Mrs and Miss Beere intend to return to -Wellington next month to be ready for the opening of Miss Beore's classes in.'March.
